Revelation 12 - Discover The Woman, Man Child and Dragon

The interpretation of the Woman, the Man-Child, The Dragon and the Beast of Revelation Chapter 12, are key to understanding the entire prophetic theme of the whole bible. We must fully comprehend the main story told over and over in the bible by the all of the Old Testament prophets. Without this wisdom, we get off track and come up with what I call, ” far-fetched and wacky” end time paradigms.

I have seen no less than 100 articles on the internet discussing the meaning of the Woman, the Man-Child, the Dragon, and the Beast. Seriously? I spend hours at a time, responding to comments left on forums and Facebook defending the biblical meanings of such allegories, and some still just do not get it. For the beginner in bible prophecy, sometimes crazy theories can make sense due to a lack of foundational study coupled with a wild interpretation that makes sense at the time.

I believe in sound hermeneutics when attempting to interpret biblical symbolism. Hermeneutics, simply put, means letting the bible interpret the bible and not just grasping at something that may seem to fit. This means finding other places in the bible where this symbolics is interpreted, and stick with that meaning and context throughout. I hope that after you read this, you will have a good grasp of these symbols, what they mean, and how they help to interpret the rest of scripture dealing with the end times.

Revelation 12: 1-3

12 And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: 2 And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered. 3 And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. 4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born. 5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

Almost everyone agrees the Man-Child is Jesus and the Dragon is Satan. I agree! So the question is: WHO IS THE WOMAN?

Some say the Woman is Mary, the mother of Jesus. Some say it’s the Harlot from Revelation Ch 13. Others say it’s the Church, the Bride of Christ. The answer? It is none of the above! The WOMAN is TRUE ISRAEL. God has not replaced Israel with the Church. That is what is known as Replacement Theology, which, in a nutshell, says that Israel has no relevance today because of her disobedience to God, and because of that, God has replaced her with the Church.

I will write more on that topic and how it is simply not scriptural at a later date. God most certainly did divorce the HOUSE OF ISRAEL, but will also redeem her. He didn’t do away with Israel, the nation or the people at all. No, friends, Israel has a very important role in the end times.

The Woman is Israel

Isaiah 66:6-10- The Woman is called Zion and Jerusalem

6 A voice of noise from the city, a voice from the temple, a voice of the LORD that rendereth recompense to his enemies.
7 Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child.
8 Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.
9 Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the LORD: shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb? saith thy God.
10 Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her: rejoice for her.

Isaiah 54:1-6

1 Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the Lord.
2 Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes;
3 For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.
4 Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.
5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.
6 For the Lord hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God."

Genesis 37:9-11 - Joseph's Dream

Scripturally, this woman clothed with the sun should be identified with Israel, according to Joseph's dream (Genesis 37:9-11). In that dream, the sun represented Jacob, the moon represented Joseph's mother Rachel, and the eleven stars were the sons of Israel which bowed down to Joseph. In this sign with twelve stars, Joseph is now among the other tribes of Israel.

Age Old Enmity: Satan vs Israel and Seed vs Seed- You can see this in the News Today

Revelation 12 illustrates the enmity between the Woman (Israel) and the Dragon (Satan, the Serpent). It tells us also about the enmity between HER SEED (the Man-Child) and the Dragon or Serpent’s seed (the Beast). This enmity is discussed in Genesis Chapter Three.

Genesis 3:14-15

14 “And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel”

The Bible is full of examples of Satan persecuting Israel and is full of seed against seed. Issac vs Ishmael, Jacob vs Esau and many more.

The Symbols of Revelation 12 Will Reveal The Beast

Now, what about the Beast? Studying the Beasts of the Book of Revelation can be complex and confusing stuff.  But if we break it down into smaller pieces, we can discover exactly who and what they are.

The WOMAN is Israel/Zion
The MAN-CHILD is Jesus Christ
The RED DRAGON is Satan

The BEAST WITH 7 HEADS AND 10 HORNS of Revelation Chapter 13 and 17--exactly matches-- the description of the Dragon/Satan/Devil here in Revelation 12. It is the method by which Satan tries to devour the WOMAN -the historical Kingdoms.

Having this foundation, will assist in understanding Revelation 13 and 17, and Daniel 4 and 7, that describes this Beast with 7 heads and 10 horns (remember that is an identical match to the representation of the red dragon)
